Takes a sudden and surprising turn around the midpoint, becoming less of a surfing drama as it steers towards more adult themes. This undermined the film for me, though it was still a worthy and well-made effort all the same.

This was a very understated coming-of-age drama.  It reminded me a lot of the fantastic An Education in the way that the story is told and where the character ends up.  Some of the tag lines over-emphasized the last third of the movie (probably to draw in more viewers).  I think that one of the toughest things to learn about life is where you are supposed to be. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com or IHateBadMovies on facebook
