Rating it poorly not for the content but because it was a boring-ass movie.
I enjoyed spending time with these people... I probably wouldn't stay overnight though!
What I liked most about this film is that it took a unique and smart approach to tell a story. In other movies the hijinks of the host couple would have been some kind of bad comedy. While this is certainly a dark comedy, their actions have a purpose and it isn't until later in the movie that things start to come into focus. While I generally like Schwartzman I think he has never been better than his work in this film because of the nuances required to color his multi-faceted character. The movie ultimately asks the user to consider the very core of relationships in general and marriage in particular. I suspect that these questions will be difficult for some. Given that the point of the movie was to present these questions I thought that they left the ending exactly where it should have been. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
This is a film which may be very uncomfortable for some people to see, I think. Most of my friends would, I suspect, as I was uncomfortable about the goings-on for much of the time. Still, it's a free film. And it continually, to me, touches upon the fact that everything can be important if you allow it to be.
