I found a lot to like while watching "Planet Terror". Even though this movie is a tip of the hat to the old scratchy rough and dirty Grindhouse features from years past, this movie looks great! I really like the grainy production quality. Rose McGowan is tough and tender at once and is a great choice for the role of Cherry Darling. Two other scene-stealers are Jeff Fahey and Michael Biehn. I also appreciated the small Bruce Willis part. The story is typical zombie fare but the characters keep things fun. The problem is that this movie didn't know when to stop. The final sequence when the survivors try and escape to a pair of helicopters seemed like it would never end. The massive amounts of blood guts and other melted and bubbling body parts made me roll my eyes more than anything, yet that was probably the point of the movie all along. I guess I enjoyed "Planet Terror" mostly for the entertaining way the filmmakers creatively paid tribute to their past love of schlock cinema. Seriously though, if you're put off by excessive gore stay away from this movie.
"Looks like a no-brainer." Love the over-the-top campiness, the cinematography, the music, the hot women. The gross body horror stuff is just not for me. JT MVP.
How were the gun-leg shooting without trigger?
The stronger of the two sides of "Grind house" . Most zombie flicks are solemn, sad affairs wallowing in apocalypse or campy sendups. This one throws both in the blender and puts it on PUREE. Fun and really fast paced. Musters a good story and somehow one of Michael Biehn's best roles.
>*"I'm gonna eat your brains and gain your knowledge."* A super fun bloody cheesy time! I liked *Death Proof* a little more but not by much. Like *Death Proof*, it goes back and forth between horror and action and it's a great mix. Same grindhouse look that gives it that special look but I also love the vivid neon colors, lots of green, red, orange... the fog mixed with zombies is always perfect. Some great practical effects and some less cool CGI effects. Pretty gross stuff that had me look away, especially the stuff in the hospital. Fun characters all around, they have no depth but they're entertaining nonetheless. Lots of attempts at comedy but it's not all hit and I wanted more one-liners. The movie's at it's best with the zombies but I wasn't crazy about the military plot. I'm still convinced Marley Shelton is related to Anna Faris
