Karriere
Dawsons Karriere begann 1995, als sie von Larry Clark auf New Yorks Straßen entdeckt wurde. Sie bekam daraufhin eine Hauptrolle in dessen Film Kids. Dank des großen Filmerfolgs konnte sich Dawson am Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute zur Schauspielerin ausbilden lassen. 2005 wurde sie für ihre schauspielerische Leistung als Mimi in Rent mit einem Satellite Award in der Kategorie Beste Nebendarstellerin (Komödie/Musical) ausgezeichnet.
