An absolutely brilliant film. Truly fantastic.

I watched this movie at first because it said it was about a woman fighting for rights, girl power and all, as someone else said "don't judge". lol. It really wasn't a girl power movie, but of course, being based on a true story, girl power back then was pretty much nominal. What it really is a wonderful period piece about a very little known story of how society changes for the good or the bad. The acting is fantastic as was the directing, script, and the sets and costumes. I gave it a 9 only because I feel like the adv for it was misleading. It's not a girl power theme. It's a true love conquers all in the midst of one of the most judgemental periods in human history with strict social ranks and positions, strict guidelines on wealth transfer, women's places, racial places, and how one powerful man doing the right thing can change so many lives.

It was not the perfect movie but it was quite good and the actors were quite good. It's sad that the story is based on a real story – just horrible.
