Such a downgrade from the first . The first was lightning in a bottle and this is left with only flickering sparks. Divoff is still the highlight, and the casino has some fun dumb kills and of course there’s the ‘fuck himself’ scene, but on the whole the kills are weaker and less creative. There’s a boring romance that takes up way more screentime than the first movie’s that happens just days after her boyfriend that she loved died. The protagonist is weaker and there’s an odd puritan and religious undercurrent to her arc about needing to become pure and religious and dress plain. And an odd thread of homophobia throughout the first act. It might be worth seeing once for more Divoff hamming it up, but after that, just rewatch the original.
not a massive drop from the first film in any significant fashion but i do find this one a bit boring in spite of _Andrew Divoff_ carrying the hell out of things with his performance as the Djinn and yet another climax of mayhem in a crowded place (this trades a party for a casino). obsessed with the Djinn making his first appearance in these first two entries as an aborted fetus followed by a fucked up slug. so much probably went into the effects and design for these variations of the Djinn's design for what only showed for like 5 minutes each go. not quite the massive fave i wanted this to be from _Sholder_ given _A Nightmare on Elm Street 2_ and _Alone in the Dark_ but it has some appeal.
He's back and he's got a prophesy to fulfill. Not even close to being as good as the first but the Djinn still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Andrew Divoff is the star and none of this would work without him, he continues doing an excellent job. What made the first good was all the clever use of wishes and the impressive use of practical effects. ***Wishmaster 2*** recycles ideas from the first (someone passing through bars/walls, a skeleton coming out of someone...) and none of the new tricks felt as clever as the first. The penny woman was funny though and I always enjoy Demerest's funny spontaneous dialogue. Lots of cheese and some good laughs.
>"Everybody needs help... even the devil." Not as good as the first one, but still a better horror sequel than most horror series. The Djinn is still a scary villain and the deaths are still creative. I don't even want to watch Wishmaster 3 or 4 because Andrew Divoff isn't the Djinn anymore, and he is what makes the first two films fun.
I know this is supposed to be terrible and yeah, it's pretty cheesy, but I have a blast with this sequel every time. Love the premise of the Wishmaster in prison and at the casinos. Divoff is great in the role. And Holly Fields... jeez!
