I would call this a "Fair" movie but probably wouldn't sit through it twice. I was disappointed that there wasn't more sniper action in the movie, and certainly by today's standards, this was quite dated. I enjoyed Tom Berenger's acting, but not one other person in the entire movie was worth even seeing. The whole thing seemed very stilted, like a Broadway play; there was very little (if anything) that felt "natural" or real about it. I'm not sorry I watched it - and yes, I'll watch all the spin-offs - but this one was just barely good enough to even mention. Tom's role made it watchable but there was nothing else to mention.
One shot, one kill. I decided to watch the Sniper film series, and the right way to do it is starting with the first one. Even though the movie was released before I was even born, it genuinely surprised me — and I’d go as far as to say it’s better than many modern films in the genre. The quality is impressive. Tom Berenger delivers a great performance as Thomas Beckett, portraying not only the technical side of being a sniper but also the psychological weight, chaos, and emotional toll that come with it. In contrast, Billy Zane as Richard Miller works perfectly as the “man in the suit,” someone completely out of his element in the jungle. Their dynamic is one of the film’s strongest points. Everything fits together nicely: the story, the characters, and the strong focus on the mission and the action. I highly recommend it. You can start with this one without any hesitation — its age doesn’t take away from its quality at all.
This movie holds a special place in my heart, as I watched this when it came out with my Dad, and I loved it... Still do...
One shot equals one dead.
A decent action flick that spawned like 10 made for dvd sequels.
