Oh my goodness... NO. Terrible B movie. 3/10 is generous. All I could think of throughout the movie is "Allstate".
I’m currently marathoning the Sniper film series, and so far, this has been the weakest entry compared to the previous ones. It feels like the movie tried to further develop Brandon Beckett’s personality and sense of duty, but ended up losing itself along the way. Many plot points don’t make much sense, and at times it’s easy to feel confused about what’s happening. The pacing doesn’t help either — it’s sometimes too fast and other times unnecessarily slow. The villain, in particular, has no real impact and feels completely unimportant to the story. My rating is mostly carried by the action scenes, shootouts, and locations rather than the narrative itself.
So you tell me a high-ranking military officer assigned to a region can't spell one of the major capital names... Apart from that: - absolute dogshit of special effects and fighting scenes; - military men speaking in cliché phrases instead of talking like normal people — 'copy that' is my personal ick; - "the Ukraine" ffs; - Tbilisi written with a typo; - foreign soldiers barely speaking a resemblance to their own languages; And the list goes on and on. The movie looks more like a LARP than a movie. Embarrasing.
I may be in the minority here but I have to say of all the _Sniper_ franchise to date (this makes the 6th, to date) this has been my favorite and, IMO, the best one. I enjoyed the original but have to say that, as storylines go, this one felt more "complete", like an actual script had been written, completed, and followed through by the entire cast and crew. While I wasn't a fan of Billy Zane - and sort of cringed when I saw his name in top billing for this one - I have to say he pulled off his role very well here. What I enjoyed above all about this particular film was the actual sniper action that was involved. More than just a title with maybe one scene that involved a kill shot, _Ghost Shooter_ actually involved a number of different snipers pulling off a number of different shots. Plenty of action here, if you're hoping for that. I suppose the one "minus" I have to give this was the way the movie sort of "fizzled" near the end; again, just my opinion, but I felt like the closing scenes were pretty lame, as if they weren't sure how to tie everything off. All that being said, though, I stick to my opinion that - so far - this has been the best of all of them. I missed Tom Berenger (kept hoping he would make a showing somewhere) but even without him, this was a good film and definitely worth a watch.
