Steve Railsback is always top-notch.
**This is part of my 2022 HORROR Fridays** So...Deadly Games was my first blind buy of an Arrow release that didn't work out. This was just unimaginative and dull. Very boring kills, very little tension, nothing even remotely scary about the buildups, and the reveal was very obvious. The only redeeming quality was Jo Ann Harris as the quirky main character. I liked her quite a lot. I guess you can't win them all. Unless you have seen this before and liked it, I would stay away from Deadly Games.
Man alive this was incredibly slow moving. This is every bit the idea of what a slow burn looks like. The script felt really off. It didn’t feel like it knew what it was trying to do. There’s absolutely not enough characters or death scenes. The killer is extremely one dimensional and isn’t creative or unique at all. The ending was awful, extremely lazy and very rushed. The score was really good and helped elevate certain moments. I just wish this had a bit more going on because it felt extremely dry. * Arrow Video Blu-ray
Despite a genuinely intriguing premise that revolves around a seemingly entertaining game, "Deadly Games" ultimately devolves into a disappointingly cliché and entirely forgettable slasher flick. While the initial setup promises something fresh, it quickly falls prey to predictable tropes, leaving little lasting impression beyond its squandered potential.
The main characters “comedy” bits and her talking to herself is super annoying and painful to watch. Not the actors fault, I’m sure she’s being directed to riff and fill the runtime but ooooof.
