Anne Hathaway is the female Gary Oldman, I just see the character and not her. This movie is worth a watch, but now I have to see the rest of Hathaway's film's.
What a twist! This film was great, kept me hooked until the very end.
Alice and Céline live ordinary lives with successful husbands and children of the same age. Suddenly, their perfect harmony shatters after a tragic accident and the death of one of the children, causing devastation between the two families. Guilt, suspicion, and doubt arise, unraveling the bond of sisterhood between them. The story is gripping, and the events are intense. You witness Alice’s suspicion that Céline is trying to take her child away, leaving the viewer to decide whom to believe. The performances of the lead actresses—Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain—are outstanding. Anne takes on a new and remarkable role and excels in it. The situations make you think deeply: who is truthful and who is lying? Age Rating: 18+ Film Rating: 8/10
Great pacing perfectly complemented by Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway's riveting acting. I was engaged and on edge for the entire film.
As a meditation on guilt and grief, this could have been very good. The way these feelings can rot our relationships, make us paranoid, and push us towards anger and suspicion to relieve us of having to sit and deal with our shame. The way tragedy can be so isolating, and how real shit can reveal that our closest friends are only our friends in good times. How grief can change us to the point where we don't recognize ourselves anymore. Unfortunately it just decided to be a thriller, greatly devaluing the deeper, more interesting story that could have been told.
