A Remember the Titans for basketball. Great feeling afterwards.
"You said we're a team. One person struggles, we all struggle. One person triumphs, we all triumph." When I came downstairs I saw my girlfriend just started watching Coach Carter and I thought well it has been awhile since I've seen this one so I thought it was a good idea to watch it with her and I'm glad I did. Coach Carter is such a feel good movie with so many upbeat speeches and a great performance by Samuel L. Jackson and I always forget Channing Tatum is in this one. Anyway Coach Carter ticks off all the boxes these feel-good sports movies have to have. But that is okay. It's fun and that is the most important thing. If you haven't seen this one yet, it is worth checking out.
There are films that tell you exactly how they’re going to work from the very first minute, and still pull you in. Coach Carter is one of them. It doesn’t hide its cards, doesn’t shy away from sports-movie clichés, and doesn’t seem especially worried about doing so. And yet, it works. It’s an easy watch, genuinely entertaining, and ends up leaving you with more than just the usual final rush. A big part of that is Samuel L. Jackson. He’s excellent, as always, playing a tough, stubborn coach who is deeply convinced of what he stands for. He doesn’t need to overact or constantly raise his voice to command respect. His presence carries the film through its more predictable moments and makes a character feel grounded rather than cartoonish. The story works because it goes beyond sports. Basketball matters, of course, but it isn’t the true center of the film. What’s really at stake is education, discipline, commitment, and responsibility, especially in an environment where very little is expected from these kids. That’s where the film finds its strength, particularly knowing it’s based on real events. That said, the runtime is excessive, and some situations linger longer than they should. Certain ideas are repeated, and the message can feel a bit too explicit at times. It clearly wants to make sure nothing is missed, even if that means sacrificing some subtlety along the way. Still, the overall result works. The games are well shot, the conflicts carry emotional weight, and the young cast does a solid job. It may not surprise or innovate, but it holds your attention for over two hours, which is no small thing. Coach Carter isn’t a great film, but it’s a very good one within its genre. Honest, effective, and elevated by a strong lead performance. One of those movies you enjoy watching and finish with the feeling that it was time well spent.
What a great inspirational story about a family successful man who takes a job coaching the basketball team at his old high school where he owns all the records in order to make a difference/change as it is a poor minority high school that graduates only half their students. Sure the aspect of him making the team a cinderella story is entertaining and keeps the audience on the edge of their seat, but the real story that makes this a great film aside from the fluent plot development and casting, is the fact that Coach Carter emphasizes education over winning games and shows it in a dramatic way.
Watched it yesterday and it was really good.It was a great movie which had to do with something more than basketball and with great messages. Also i liked the perfomances especially Jackson's perfomance was emotional. 7.5/10
