Good, but too many loose ends. I wish she would have actually stood up against the school system more. I know it isn't realistic, but it would have been a lot more satisfying.

This is one of the iconic 90s movies for me. All I ever remembered were how beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer was and Coolio’s epic hit Gangster’s Paradise. I watched it today, decades after watching it as a teen. Those two things are still what makes this movie great. The story itself isn’t much. During the 90s and early 2000s, they made a lot of movies with similar narratives about inner city schools with troubled kids and an unsuspecting teacher being dropped into the middle of it.

One of the best films I’ve ever had the chance to watch. Michelle Pfeiffer delivers a magnificent performance, and the characters are endearing. The film’s underlying theme is the desire to help those who have been told they have no future. Despite the challenges, the heroine manages to motivate her class and turn them into brilliant students. A touching film that I highly recommend.
