Sue me but I love this silly movie. It's sexy and romantic. Despite Malcolm McDowel's character begging his sister to have sex with him lol. The Nastassja Kinski and John Heard chemistry is what I liked about it. While yeah Kinski was pretty sexy.
Not too bad and not as boring as the other erotic movie with Nastassja. Malcolm is a bit creepy though (as usual I suppose ;) )
Right from the start, you could tell this was going to be something special, whether in a good or bad way. The film looks beautiful, the colors and framing are spot on, and the music fits perfectly. When Bowie’s voice comes in, it gives the whole experience a dreamy, haunting quality. Nastassja Kinski is mesmerizing; she completely steals the show and brings an energy that’s hard to look away from. However, the further it went, the more it slipped for me. The story feels pretty thin, and it takes a long time to understand what’s happening. Some parts felt weird or uncomfortable, especially the dynamic with her brother. The zoo setting pulled me out a bit. What works really well is the atmosphere. The film focuses heavily on mood, often caring more about vibe than actual story. Desire, repression, voyeurism, violence — it’s all there, not subtle, but it gives the movie its identity. The problem is that the pacing drags. Moments that should have been suspenseful or scary often fall flat because they’re shown too directly. It feels like the film keeps teasing something bigger, but never fully delivers. That said, the mix of everything — the visuals, the music, the atmosphere, and Kinski’s presence — creates something strangely captivating. It’s erotic, stylish, and hypnotic at times, but it also flattens out due to pacing issues and story choices that didn’t really work for me. The film has moments of magic, but it never fully comes together.
Director Paul Schrader remakes the classic horror-thriller _Cat People_ as an erotic thriller, f**king it up royally. When Irena reunites with her estranged brother, she discovers a terrible family secret; that they are the descendants of cat people who turn into vicious panthers when they indulge in their sexual passions. While some of the names and relationships are the same as in the Val Lewton original, the plot wildly differs (and not for the better). Starring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, and Annette O’Toole, the film has a pretty good cast; but the sex and violence comes off as rather seedy (especially with the incest subplot). Also, the storytelling is incredibly poor and hard to follow. However, David Bowie’s “Cat People” theme song is quite impressive (and worthy of a better film). Tawdry and exploitative, _Cat People_ has none of the tension and suspense of the original.
Nastassja Kinski is a panther.
