Familiar tropes, nods to legendary horror directors, consistent VHS static and a fun whodunit story thread all contribute to Night of the Reaper's comfy, cozy Halloween vibe that's perfect for a spooky season horror watch-list. Set your expectations accordingly and you’ll find much to enjoy in this surprisingly fun Shudder flick.

Had something really good going in the first two acts, it's mildly scary and reminded me of *The Strangers* but set in the 80's. House filled with dark corners, a few good jump scares, the characters are likable, and the villain seemed like a badass from the cool intro at the beginning... But then they throw all that out the window in the third act with a make-it-up-as-we-go twist filled with plot holes and conveniences. Got really lame after that and I completely lost interest. At least there was a little bit of blood but where did the scares go?

It starts out as what feels like an homage to the classic 1980s slasher horror movie. It even plays in the 1880s. Due to some nice twists, it gets a bit of an own identity. Solid classic slasher horror. Good but it feels a lot like already seen elsewhere. For fans.
