I liked the idea that everyone is somehow connected to each other. Its too bad the show didn't catch on and it got cancelled after only 13 episodes.
really solid show, especially the first half. given the way it ended though, i got the sense that the network must have asked for some upping of the melodrama to gain viewers? there wasn’t too extreme of a change, but the entanglements went from intriguing and grounded, to borderline soap opera-like. perhaps on a weekly basis it was easier to hide the specious reasonings but on a binge the fluctuation of tone sticks out quite easily. still, this was pretty good. the writing is consistent (period typical misogyny aside), the plots are (mostly) coherent, the cinematography is beautiful—love the way they utilize nyc almost as a character of its own—and the acting convincing. it would’ve thrived in the mid 2010s netflix era, before the greed overtook the company and they started passing off pathetic slop as television. anyway. this show is an interesting little network drama that takes itself and its audience seriously, but not overly so; it’s not a genre show, or a mystery, or procedural, or medical drama. it’s got a little bit of everything; but maybe that’s why people lost interest. a show about people and how they connect and affect each others lives doesn’t sound interesting on paper, but this one really was. almost wish they would put it on streaming but all the options these days it will probably get drowned out anyway. unfortunate, because it’s a worthwhile watch.
