Jess Franco made a lot of garbage; Oftentimes confusing, poorly written, badly edited. Though, ever since seeing _Female Vampire_ (1973) many years ago, I have been on a quest to watch as many Franco films as I can find. See, even though his movies are largely bad, he has a style all his own: trashy, sleazy, yet always striving to be artistic. One could almost call it elevated exploitation. _She Killed in Ecstasy_ is a film I would feel confident saying is Franco's magnum opus. The story doesn't fall into the same trappings of his other works. This one has a simple plot, and it gets the job done without making a total mess. Now, I think where we have to start is with the lead, Soledad Miranda, as Mrs. Johnson. Franco had a talent for casting beautiful European women in his movies, and Soledad is second to none but Lina Romay - who Franco would discover only a few years later, after Soledad's unfortunate death. Soledad is carrying this story, which centers around her in what could be called an erotic revenge movie. Mrs. Johnson's disgraced husband kills himself, and she takes revenge on his colleges, who she sees as responsible. The twist is, she uses her sexuality to lure them in, and ultimately blurs her line between sexual manipulation and sexual arousal. Interesting stuff. Loads of nudity from Soledad. Some great costumes. Highly recommended for fans of '70 revenge movies. All of that being said, under normal standards, this is a mediocre film, but for Franco, it's a masterpiece. Watch it for Soledad. What a total fox!
