I guess not many people love this movie as much as I do. I love the score, the performances, the concept, the mystery. Very well executed movie by M. Night Shyamalan one of my favorites by him
3 Thoughts After Re-Watching ‘Signs’: 1. I’m not a fan of Mel Gibson as a human by any means, but it’s difficult to deny how incredible his performance was in this film. The entire cast was wonderful. 2. I don’t think I had ever felt as much tension as I did when I first saw this in the theater. The buildup was fantastic and effective. The creep factor was solid. I literally screamed at one point _(that damn party scene)_, and remained on the edge of my seat until the final scene. 3. There’s so much here that connects one thing to another, beyond the epiphanies at the end. This was a well thought-out story with a solid message. M. Night’s best film in my opinion.
This M. Night Shyamalan effort centers on the Hess family, who's lives are shaken by an alien invasion. The best thing about "Signs" is the dialogue between Graham and Merrill Hess, played by Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix. The lessons each of them have learned about life, and how an alien invasion brings out their emotions and their opinions, is well done. "Signs" manages to be funny and quite frightening, as well. There is some truly scary imagery, both on the Hess farm and on TV news reports. The biggest knock on this movie is the problem many viewers have with how the aliens are fought. Many viewers leap to the conclusion that because the aliens have invaded Earth, they must be so technologically advanced that they couldn't have made a miscalculation. This sounds like spin but I actually enjoy the movie immensely for the idea that the aliens have gotten in over their heads. And what if the aliens gathered up humans for consumption and not to conquer the earth? Perhaps they were quickly harvesting people for food and sent down workers to gather them up. Maybe they knew they had a very limited time to loot the earth. They got what they needed knowing they would suffer casualties and then left. The key here is that nothing is known about the aliens so why do people jump to the conclusion that the goal was for the aliens to take over the earth? Regardless, the movie is about destiny and faith, and the alien invasion is a tool used to present them.
>*"Is it possible that there are no coincidences?"* A perfect blend of alien invasion and family drama, both were equally interesting which is where the magic happens. **Signs** is about grief, faith, loneliness and family: how family comes together or falls apart in times of crisis. It also has a lot to say about coincidences. I see the aliens as God, for Gibson's character it's quite revelating and makes a good analogy for his faith. Interesting that he was the only character that needed to see it to believe it, which is understandable given everything he's been through with God. Beautifully shot, great score, smart camera angles and brilliant use of silence when you can't hear a sound something's definitely wrong. I love the farm and corn field setting it's so perfect in a horror movie. The scares are effective and it's paranoia and anxiety inducing. The third act didn't age very well and the CGI either, it feels kinda goofy but Shyamalan made a good ending so that's a win! Does anyone else keep thinking of *Scary Movie* while watching this? I'll admit I chuckled a few times.
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION FOR MYSELF NOT A "REAL REVIEW", SO YOU PROBABLY WONT AGREE WITH IT @ trakt pls make private comments/notes possible ♥
5.5, not really my kinda movie, went in knowing nothing about it and continued not really "getting the message" from the movie, the ending was a little bit over the top for me, sure cute but a little too much I originally thought the alien would help the boy, surprised how it turned out, also remembered me of that one monster in spn xD
