Another take on the sect-like village folk horror. It does the job well, having all the right ingredients but it's nothing original either, and a bit boring in the execution. It looks great and the atmosphere in general is on point. The village women are perfectly creepy. There's a family secret, an isolated village, some weird events and dreams. However even if not everything needs to be explained in this kind of movie, but a bit of discovery to make the story progress is nice and necessary. And here, there's pretty much nothing. She goes through these [spoiler]time skips[/spoiler], ok. But then what happens in between ? Is she under control ? Is it another personality ? And what actually happens when she finds herself in the middle of the forest like this ? Suddenly the husband is a [spoiler]good little zombie[/spoiler]. How ? Why ? I think I fell asleep during the [spoiler]childbirth[/spoiler] scene, which is supposed to be the climax, but even that was too long and generic without any information. Or maybe I slept through the important revelation ? Because I don't understand how [spoiler]she just leaves afterwards[/spoiler]. Weren't they after [spoiler]the baby ? They didn't want to kill it ? Or keep it ? They didn't want to keep her there[/spoiler] ? It seemed to be important since at the very least we see they could kill for it. In the end, is this a criticism of countryside medical desert ? A metaphor on the alienation that is pregnancy ? Not clear.

Gave me a "Austrian Midsommar" kinda vibe in the end. Sure, not nearly on that level and left many questions open for answers but in the end I came out mostly satisfied. Some shots are amazing, the sound design is disturbing and some characters, like Tante Paula, are down right scary. The Bene Gesserit cosplays in the end were also pretty damn cool. ;)
