Booooo no one wanted this
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Moana’: 1. Gonna start with the obvious: This had no reason to be made. Not a one. Not only does it serve better as an animated film, but not enough time has elapsed to warrant a new iteration. Even still, this added nothing new to the story, in any capacity. Quintessential cash grab. 2. As endearing as our leading star was here, I sadly don’t think this was a role best suited for her. Moana is supposed to exude a fierce sense of adventure, and Auli'i Cravalho did that wonderfully with her vocal performance. It’s a big reason why I love her songs in the original. I don’t feel Iike the new Moana captured that, at all. It wasn’t the strongest performance to lead a film with, especially through song. 3. The Rock. His jokes and one-liners just didn’t land for me. He wasn’t funny. And I found his look to be very distracting. If I wasn’t feeling hampered down by his silly wig, or consistently wondering whether or not he had nipples, I may have taken him a little more seriously.
Boooo. Why!? Just why?!? There is so much CGI on this thing that it might as well be animated. I wish Disney would just stop these “live action” remakes, they’re all horrible
Moana 2 is charting a course for cinemas on 27 November (2024).
At its core, it's a sincere story about acceptance and self-belief, encouraging us to leave ignorance and fear behind, all set to an excellent soundtrack.
