Just imagine a high-precision system that connects all of Europe's surveillance cameras into one platform, enhanced by a new AI-powered facial recognition technology. This is the 27th installment in the Detective Conan movie series. The story follows a gathering of engineers from around the world at an Interpol marine facility on Hachijō-jima, an island off the central coast of Tokyo Prefecture, to witness the launch of a new global surveillance system. This system connects all law enforcement cameras worldwide and enables facial recognition on a global scale. Conan and his friends head to the island, invited by Sonoko to watch the whales. However, Conan receives a message from Bourbon revealing that a Europol agent was murdered in Germany by Gin. Disturbed, Conan sneaks aboard the police ship transporting the engineers to the island for protection. He tours the new facility—just in time for the Black Organization to kidnap one of the engineers in pursuit of crucial data on her personal drive. Shockingly, the group stumbles upon images of Haibara, and the suspense kicks in from there. The story is great, blending modern themes like artificial intelligence with classic suspense elements. The film highlights how such advanced technologies can be either useless or dangerous if misused. The action is solid and ranks this among the more successful movies in the series. We also get to see different sides of familiar characters, and a new member of the Black Organization plays an important role in the plot. A good movie for a thrilling evening watch.
