Basada en las divagaciones semi-autobiográficas del ecléctico autor Jonathan Ames, Bored to Death nos cuenta la historia de un escritor obsesionado con las novelas negras (Jason Schwartzman) que, tras una dolorosa ruptura con su novia Suzanne (Olivia Thirlby), impulsivamente decide anunciar sus servicios como detective privado en Craigslist, aunque no tenga licencia ni experiencia alguna. Enseguida y para su sorpresa, a Jonathan le contratan varios clientes desesperados para resolver diversos casos (uno por episodio), que investiga en lugar de trabajar en su segunda novela y escribir para la revista que dirige su excéntrico jefe George Christopher (Ted Danson). También pasa tiempo con su amigo Ray (Zach Galifianakis), un divertido ilustrador.

HBO just cancelled Bored to Death.
This is an amusing-to-hilarious – depending on the episode – comedy that is perhaps a little too rooted in the Brooklyn of the early 21st century for its own good. The scenario is utterly implausible but it is absurd enough so that we stop caring about that and focus more on the sort of meta-hi-jinks that ensue.
