Not the best movie you will ever see and for a lazy cat Garfield is too wild. With that said this is a cute and harmless guilty pleasure.
Part of the spirit of comics.
This is one of those fever-dream movies that’s just so bizarre and janky it ends up being iconic. It’s not a good film, the CGI is rough, the plot is non-existent, and the humor is incredibly dumb, but it kind of knows what it is. It falls into that same weird early-2000s category as Alvin and the Chipmunks: hyper-surreal, vaguely annoying, but somehow still endearing. Bill Murray voicing Garfield gives it that ironic twist that almost makes the whole mess funnier in hindsight. It’s got that dumb, memeable energy. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but nostalgia gives it some charm now.
I know Garfield is an unlikeable character but Bill Murray makes him even more so. I couldn't stand the dialogue or his delivery. I don't mind Garfield being the singular CG animal, or maybe I do because the only thing I liked was the real animals. They're all so cute, especially Odie. I so badly want a dog. The editing all around was decent. The story stunk, it somehow made 80 mins feel like an entire 3 hours. Early 2000s comedy has never been worse. I might regret saying this but I think it's time for a remake.
