The animated short film "The Flying Sailor" is about the near-death experience of an old sailor after an explosion at a pier. The blending of hand-painted 2D drawings with computer-animated 3D animations is what I would call a success. The "plot" is also straightforward, and the film is not overly long. It isn't exactly the best thing I have ever seen, but it's perfectly adequate. Furthermore, anyone who was hoping for more dicks in the other Oscar-nominated short film "My Year of Dicks" will get their money's worth here.
Artistically excellent, but misses that spark that can make it unique.
I was familiar with the history of the explosion (largest non-nuclear man-made detonation ever) but not about the "sailor–protagonist" (shall I say, to avoid even the hint of a spoiler). The animation is very well done. A very worthwhile 8 minutes.
