Respect to the mighty Michael Caine. That's it. Nothing more...
Not a new version of Oliver Twist, in fact apart from the name of the characters not much to do with the Dickens novel at all, but not a bad movie if you are looking for something a little upbeat and away from the usual fake English accents, swearing and violence that normally come with crime dramas from across the pond. Although a bit predictable at times and the storyline stretched out to fill 90+ minutes, it was good to see some young English actors of the future working along side one of the greats. It would possibly work better as a series of hour long episodes if Sky were looking at making a sequel at some point
There is scope for a decent updating of Oliver Twist but this isnt it. It’s more a boring heist thriller than a Dickens update, with the style of a Guy Ritchie movie that has had the life sucked out of it. Its bad, really bad, and an embarrassment for all concerned. Please sir, can i have no more?
I expected the worst - and it wasn't. Kudos to anyone trying to throw a new spin on things, and this was. But as a movie, it lacked a lot. But the music was well selected, some interesting casting (Noel Clarke as the policeman, Rota Ora, Michael Caine) And every movie is made better with the addition of parkour - even when the relevance is unclear
