_Mardi Gras Massacre_ is light on the Mardi Gras, and light on the massacre. This movie is trying to be several genres, while never really balancing. In all actuality, it just needed to be a sleazy horror movie, but it crams in romance, and a crime thriller. The dialog, acting, and camera work make this less than or equal to a '70s porn; and at times it feel like it was a porn, only with the sex swapped out for gore. The kills are repetitive, and look as if they were heavily influenced by Herschell Gordon Lewis. There is plenty of nudity, a car chase, and even a dance sequence. We get some fairly interesting characters, including our killer - who must have gone to the Boris Karloff school of acting - hookers with hearts of gold, and two cliche detectives, but the best one was Catfish the white, rhyming pimp. Hands down, the best aspect of the film was the music; we get lots of funky disco jams that will make you want to shake your booty. This definitely was a rollercoaster of being good, bad, terrible, okay, funny, boring, and unique. Honestly, for all of its flaws, I've never seen a movie exactly like this - it does feel a little like an Americanized giallo, that's the best way I can describe it. If you love grindhouse cinema, in general, this is a fun watch. Just understand that this is mainly a detective story, with a nice helping of gore, and naked ladies - imagine _Seven_, only dumb, and super trashy.
“There’s an awful face in my soup!” - Amy Fletcher Silly, corny, full on cheesyness make this early 80s samurai horror ghost story worth watching. If you are a Susan George fan or just love the Nutty 80s. 👺:shinto_shrine::dagger:🀄
