Hmm. I can tell this is an important film in film history. It's a bit difficult to follow in that the acting is sometimes the caliber of that in silent films. But the characters are sympathetic, caring, self-serving, or hateful, which makes for an interesting story arc in this compact film.
I wish I could see this on a restored print, because there were clearly some interesting things happening with the camera despite the unfussy, neorealist bent to the whole picture. It also felt like a really interesting time capsule of a time and a place in transition, and I appreciated the movie's commentary on labor relations and gender-based violence. Great ending.
