The original title of the film is Tôkyô orinpikku.
Reminded me of an NFL films-style presentation, and I watched a beautiful restoration. This was all fine, but my problem with both this and Olympia is that I've just never been much of an Olympics person.
Japanauary2025 Film #7 - Tokyo Olympiad (1965) Olympic Films are always very interesting because they give you a snapshot of what was of significance to the host country and the film makers. Somethings that jumped out at me… 1) The US and Canadian delegations wore Cowboy hats. 2) This was the first Olympics broadcast in Color and via Satellite around the world. 3) The Japanese woman’s Volleyball team beat the Soviet Union team for the Gold Medal 4) The Japanese (along with Germany and Bulgaria) were banned from the 1948 London Olympic Games On the Criterion Channel there is over an hour of additional footage in the extras and a commentary. I really enjoyed watching this documentary and I am looking forward to watching other installments.
