I caught this late '80s/early '90s film on thisTV & actually liked it, if not loved it. It's a quaint '60s film about 4 women encountering a rite of passage one summer in Myrtle Beach, SC. Before the "Austin Powers" films brought to the lexicon the British synonym for "having sex," "shagging" was a popular dance in the Sixties, reminisced in the country song "Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard" by Alabama. The lead actresses are Phoebe Cates ("Drop Dead Fred" "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"), Annabeth Gish ("The X-Files" "Steel"), Bridget Fonda (Jane Fonda's niece; "Point of No Return") & Page Hannah (Daryl Hannah's sister).

This movie screams summer so hard it is amazing. A nostalgic fantasy in all the best ways.

This movie is about four friends that sneak off to Myrtle Beach for a weekend before their lives change in the fall. Both the girls and the country are on the edge of change: the girls are going to be forced to the next stage of their lives, and the country is on the edge of social and political turmoil. But never mind all of that, there is a weekend to be had. For what it is trying to be, the movie nails it. As you can probably guess, the weekend is eventful.
