Sinopsis
A principios del siglo XX, París es el centro del mundo. Los artistas, la moda, el teatro, la música… y las cortesanas, esas mujeres tan bellas y experimentadas en el arte del amor que llegan a ser mantenidas por los hombres poderosos de la época. Léa de Lonval es una cortesana que ha conseguido llevar una vida agradable y ya no ejerce como tal. Una mañana va a almorzar con su antigua compañera Madame Peloux, que está acompañada por un joven que resulta ser su hijo, Chéri, como ella le llama. Madame Peloux tiene grandes proyectos para él, pero Chéri debe convertirse primero en un hombre.

I'm not sure what I just watched. What I thought was a light and naughty premise became something dark and tragic. Michelle Pfeiffer is radiant, as expected. Rupert Friend hit all the right notes as a bored, indulged young man. The juxtaposition of American and English actors speaking with mixed accents in a French setting was distracting at times. I'm afraid I can't get past the dissonance of directorial purpose in this film and, therefore, am going to give it a 6 (fair) out of 10. [Comedy?, Romance, Drama]. Just a final thought, the European nonchalance of filmmakers and actors about nudity in their films brings an intensity to scenes that may confuse the mood or intent of the overall work.
