the entire movie feels irrational and unsettling but not in a scary way—just a "what the hell is this supposed to be" kind of way. and to be fair, given that it surrounds dreaming (which continues to be something we understand virtually nothing about and that's why i was able to take a college course condensing all factual and valid dream studies in the history of psychology into one semester) that's not unreasonable. it feels a little ridiculous and unexplained like dreams do, and it has that feeling that dreams-within-dreams do, where you thought you woke up but you're just living your own really boring inception life. the acting is generally good across the board but tbh richard armitage is worlds above the rest and the movie was mainly worth watching for him and his beautiful, disgustingly talented face.
An intriguing mystery up until the final half hour...and then it kinda falls apart. The way the story resolved itself didn't ring true, much like those dreams we have at night, when we wake up and realise the events our mind played out didn't make as much sense as we thought they did!
