I'm not sure what I just watched. What I thought was a light and naughty premise became something dark and tragic. Michelle Pfeiffer is radiant, as expected. Rupert Friend hit all the right notes as a bored, indulged young man. The juxtaposition of American and English actors speaking with mixed accents in a French setting was distracting at times. I'm afraid I can't get past the dissonance of directorial purpose in this film and, therefore, am going to give it a 6 (fair) out of 10. [Comedy?, Romance, Drama]. Just a final thought, the European nonchalance of filmmakers and actors about nudity in their films brings an intensity to scenes that may confuse the mood or intent of the overall work.
