Very bad. It feels like one of those failed films or backdoor pilots made to play on a lazy Sunday afternoon, half asleep, without asking anything from the viewer. The basic idea could have worked, because mixing time travel, a terrorist threat, and a mission to alter the past has potential. The problem is that almost nothing here is actually developed. The worst part is the script. It is full of half-baked ideas, characters that feel copied from a template, and situations that do not survive even the slightest scrutiny. Everything moves forward as if someone had decided that a science-fiction premise was enough, without bothering to give the story depth, coherence, or even a minimum of personality. There are holes everywhere, and the film does not even know how to hide them. The characters are especially weak. They do not feel like people, but like stock types lined up one after another: the uptight scientist, the military guy with a shady past, the oddball tech, the supporting partner… all very familiar and very uninspired. That makes it impossible to care about what happens. If the characters mean nothing to you, the story collapses on its own, no matter how flashy the central idea wants to be. It also fails on rhythm. Instead of using its concept to build tension or curiosity, the film becomes sillier and more mechanical as it goes on. There is no real sense of adventure, no excitement, no feeling that you are watching something imaginative. Just a string of scenes that seem to lead nowhere, with the constant sense of a generic product made without much care. Not even Jeff Fahey or David Cronenberg can save it. Seeing their names in the cast is amusing on paper, but it is nowhere near enough to rescue such weak material. When a story is this undercooked, familiar faces cannot do very much. In the end, they only remind you that the film might have been something more respectable and simply isn’t. Overall, I found it to be a very weak science-fiction piece: simple, clumsy, and forgettable. One of those projects with an idea that might have worked in better hands, but here it amounts to almost nothing. Very poor, very underdeveloped, and with almost nothing worth remembering.
