Paul McGann, the most underrated Doctor ever. He has that look of "an immortal who has seen it all."
I like this film is more than the original TV series (1963-1989).* *I have only watched serials from the first four Doctors, including the popular "Genesis of the Daleks."
The theme tune is one of my favourites. It takes the middle eight and uses it straight away, which is unheard of with Doctor Who expect for this movie. Paul McGann’s performance is phenomenal. He sets the standard that all future Doctor actors adhere to. The plot is somewhat boring, but it serves well for what it was: which was a TV pilot. I met Paul McGann at a convention and he said this was just a TV pilot. It wasn’t meant to be a blockbuster, just a simple first episode for a Fox produced series. Never seen the light of day, of course, thank goodness - otherwise we wouldn’t have got the much better 2005 reboot.
Saw it on Fox on release. In retrospect it's no better and no worse than the first episode of new Who was almost a decade later. Still a shame Paul McGann got so little screen time overall but at least we'll always have Big Finish and books.
