Really what makes American Pie superior to other teenage comedies are the characters. There are lots of characters in the movie and all are well constructed, crazy in their own way and simply fun to watch. On top of that their dialog is very good and highly realistic and believable. For me, this film still holds up today.
The best Teen comedy Franchise is American Pie and it all started from this one,.
“Relax, take it slow, and let the good times roll” American Pie is one of my absolute favourite comedies of all time, hell this whole franchise is my favourite comedy franchise ever. These movies mean a lot to me and carry a ton of nostalgia. There aren't many films that are this iconic to me and the first American Pie especially is literally the definition of iconic, starting with Jim's famous pie scene. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve watched these movies this over the years and there was a point in my life where i would just stick them on constantly. They’ll always be massive comfort movies for me. They just take me back to when life felt a lot easier and the world didn’t feel like such a gloomy place to live in. They really don’t make movies like this anymore. I’m someone who adores anything from the early 2000’s and American Pie just screams that to me. I absolutely love the whole teenage high school feel of the movie and don’t even get me started on the music. This film is a big reason why my music taste is the way it is today. Growing up I never used to listen to many punk/teen bands, but ever since I first watched these films it’s all I ever listen to. They introduced me to some great bands such as SUM 41 and one of my personal favourites, Blink 182, and don’t think I didn’t notice their little cameo in this. All the characters are hilarious from Jim,Chris, Finch, Kevin, and Michelle, but there’s one character who tops them all, and that’s none other than the Stifmeister baby. Seriously, it’s impossible not to find this guy funny, even if he’s a complete jackass most of the time. I think we’ve all had a friend like Stifer at some point in our lives, someone who’s a piece of shit that you can’t help but like anyway. I know I did. Mr Levenstein is also a hysterical character who you simply can’t help but love. His awkward chats with Jim are always funny to watch and he’s exactly what a normal parent would act like in situations like this. Awkward as hell. No matter how many times I watch this movie, it still makes me die of laughter and there’s so many memorable moments in this that I’ll never forget, like Jim fucking a pie and his embarrassing dance in front of Nadia, if that’s not iconic I don’t know what is. They literally make me laugh every time. Oh and how could you forget Stifer’s mom. MILF MILF MILF. I know I didn’t really need to write a whole essay about this movie, but I did anyway because it’s an awesome movie and I am super excited to rewatch the sequels again very soon as well. I’m giving this a huge pie sized 10 out of 10, and no Jim you can’t fuck it as it’s an classic, okay. 10/10
It's more sensible on the subject of sex and teenagehood than you would expect. Unfortunately, it's not that funny, especially the toilet humor. But the most unforgivable thing though is the protagonist taping the girl in his room with no real bad repercussion for him whatsoever; it's just fucked up.
The first American Pie was hilarious funny and downright raunchy which works for a teen comedy like this. As I grew up since then and seen many films after this, looking back on this film from the late 1990's I can see the acting failed at times, more noticeably by Natasha Lyonne, but each one had their moments. I can't fault them, things in the movie business have changed since then; but nonetheless the cast was great and the story was well done. This film was born to become an instant classic. It really had shaped up some other movies like this in its wake, plus it created life to the term MILF which people use still to this day. Not many films can do that.
