A decent mystery thriller carried by strong atmosphere and a compelling setup, though it nearly buckles under an overstuffed ending. This film hooked me pretty quickly with its crumbling prison setting and that slightly grimy early 2000s direct-to-DVD thriller vibe. There's something deeply unsettling, from the rusted hallways and abandoned execution chamber to the constant sense that something disturbing is hiding behind every corner. The mystery itself was interesting enough to keep me invested. And the film reveals just enough information at a time to keep me guessing without making everything too obvious too early. The prison is easily the best part. It feels less like a normal setting and more like this decaying, suffocating presence hanging over the entire story. Even when the dialogue feels clunky or the writing gets a little rough, the atmosphere carries a huge amount of the weight. The cast is quite decent too. Nobody gives some unforgettable performance, but everyone is committed enough to make the mystery feel more believable than the script sometimes deserves. Unfortunately, the final act gets way too messy. The film keeps piling on twists, explanations, and last-minute reveals until it almost completely loses itself. Some of it works, but a lot of it feels unnecessarily convoluted and weakens what came before. Overall, this is a flawed but surprisingly watchable thriller. I'm giving this a light 3.
