Sinopsis
Dura historia real sobre una de las víctimas del llamado "ferrocarril de la muerte", construido por mano de obra forzada y prisioneros de guerra durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Para conseguir mandar apoyo a sus tropas en la Campaña de Birmania de 1942, Japón decidió construir unas vías que cruzaran desde Tailandia hasta el lugar donde se hallaban sus aliados, cruzando Bangkok y Rangún. Para llevar a cabo la obra de tal magnitud se dispuso de trabajadores asiáticos y presos enemigos británicos, australianos, holandeses y estadounidenses, entre otros. Muchos de ellos murieron en condiciones inhumanas, otros perecieron de cansancio y agotamiento, y de los pocos supervivientes llega una visión de primera mano de la realidad que se vivió allí.

The story is really interesting, especially knowing that it's based on a real one. Scary what happened back then. The movie itself was quite good as well – great acting and direction of photography was amazing. Still, I somehow was expecting more – maybe because I had the movie on my watchlist for 2 years and only watched it now…

Fantastic movie, with something to say! Based on a true story. Not easy to watch, even in our desensitized entertainment world of gore and horror, reality can still catch us up short and, hopefully, catch our emotions. Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman and Stella Skarsgaar do a fantastic job, as do the actors that play their younger selves. For a story based on real life the storytelling was well constructed and captivating. I give this a 9 (superb) out of 10.
