A surprisingly excellent ghost anthology that i didn't see coming. Reminiscent of the UK ghost stories for Christmas, a couple of the stories are downright terrifying, yet, when not leaving you looking over your shoulder, the overall feel of the film recalls Ray Bradbury's classic Ghost Story. None of these are simple tasks and thus should not be overlooked or you might miss this truly great, unexpected, modern horror-gem!
Hauntology (2024) attempts to blend LGBTQ+ themes with traditional horror elements but falls short due to uninspired execution. The anthology format, featuring an older sister sharing ghost stories with her runaway sibling, lacks the necessary creativity to engage the audience fully. The acting is subpar, with performances that fail to convey the intended depth and emotion, making it difficult to connect with the characters. While the film’s ambition to merge queer narratives with horror is commendable, the lack of imagination in its storytelling and execution renders it a tiresome and dull experience. For those interested in exploring horror films that effectively incorporate LGBTQ+ themes, consider watching “The Babadook,” “Jennifer’s Body,” “Raw,” and “Knife+Heart.” These films offer diverse and engaging narratives that successfully blend horror with LGBTQ+ perspectives.
