this couldve easily been two if not three season of high political drama, but all we got was a weird conjumbled mess of events with fantanstical plot points to tie it together and crammed in one season. im quite disappointed. read the book, the actual events that transpired were so much more entertaining.
this turned out to be an excellent show I was quite surprised. I'd recommend it to anybody as long as they don't mind gay men and prosthetic penises.
I do like me some (Starz) played-straight (no pun intended) historical period dramas (The White Princess, The White Queen, The Spanish Princess, Becoming Elizabeth) so it's nice to see something that plays around a bit more with the format a la this or The Serpent Queen and adds a bit of cheekiness or humor If I knew the history of this beforehand I might be a bit more upset at how much was changed from fact, but I don't so I wasn't Julianne Moore in absolute fine form here, never not watchable (her work really deserved more recognition) and though the narrative sags a bit the show overall was interesting enough with its palace intrigue and royal power/social ladder climbers to throw on as background noise Also shout out to Samuel Blenkin (Prince/King Charles I in the latter episodes) who continues to consistently make an impression in limited appearances on shows (Wiley on Atlanta, Davis McCardle in easily the best episode of Black Mirror's 7th season "Loch Henry"; Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (which appears to be a very fortuitous launching pad with Anthony Boyle originating the role prior to Blenkin)) with those big expressive eyes and generally pathetic demeanor that was put to such good use as Prince Charles was just generally played around as a pawn by the power brokers and movers and shakers that you kinda wanted to just give the guy a hug and tell him he's doing a great job despite not being properly prepared to be the monarch by a distracted king
loved the acting and loved the scenery but really couldn't keep up with the story since so much happened in so few episodes. not one fo my favs tbh
Applause for the great cast, they are all extremely good actors. Even if the story progressed a little too quickly and I would have preferred more parts, it was wonderfully executed.
