Someone's Watching Over Me

It would be really easy to bash this movie but I'll try to focus on some of the positives. Hilary Duff does extremely OK for her first dramatic role. She is expected to display the full gamut of emotions here - grief, anger, love, sadness, regret, etc. There is a lot of great music in the movie that most younger people today would not normally be exposed to from violins to classical piano among others. If you don't see the scholarship winner coming a mile away then this is probably your first movie ever. Added bonus is Kat Dennings as Sloane the gifted piano student in her first feature film. Enjoy this for what it is and you'll do fine.

Raise Your Voice is about as run-of-the-mill as 2000s teen dramas come—for better and worse. It follows all the familiar beats of the “teenage chick flick” formula, from the small-town girl chasing her dreams to the predictable romantic subplot, and it never strays too far from expectations. Still, what it sets out to do, it does well enough: providing an enjoyable, feel-good ride that hits the right notes for its audience. It’s not the kind of film that will hold up as timeless, but within its lane, it works. For those who grew up in that era of teen movies, it scratches the nostalgia itch, even if it never rises above “good enough.” Rating: 2.5/5 – 70% – Worth Watching

It was cute. Good music throughout. What happened to the Hallelujah Chorus that the were rehearsing for the whole time in class?
