Probably Kevin Bacon's best performance. It's a brave film to make as it asks the viewer to try to understand (and to a lesser extent sympathize) with the mindset of a paedophile. Not easy subject matter in the slightest. But it is well directed and Bacon is very good. There are mis-steps, especially regarding the extended family sub-plot. But overall it's a well made film that as well as being controversial, is interesting as there's not many movies that deal with this detail. Director Nicole Kassell should be commended for that, although it's notable that she has directed just one other feature in the 15 years since The Woodsman was made. 6.9/10
It's a uncomfortable topic to tackle and i think it's done well here. there are lot of dialog that is hard to listen to. but thats intentional. kevin accepted a role that would end careers. but his skill is in display here and makes the hard topics hit more the harder.
A paedophile undergoing rehabilitation. Ok.
