This movie will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first movie I ever watched on the computer, if you get what I mean ;) People saying it could be better...this was great for something back in 2000. Movie and story telling have evolved over the last 20 years. But I am not a film critic. Would watch again though!
Aimed at a younger audience with the rock music soundtrack and the lead characters. They had a good story here that felt a bit waisted. Still not a waste of time to watch.
The soundtrack was fantastic, and the finale delivered on spectacle—but I struggled to connect with the characters. Their designs made it hard to care about them: the enemies felt generic and lacked identity, while the allies all being aliens made them hard to relate to. I think the film would've benefited from using more human characters. Also, the dialogue felt overly simplistic—even for a kids' movie. There was a noticeable lack of emotional depth in the way the characters spoke. With stronger writing and more relatable designs, this could've hit much harder.
So much potential, so many fun small improvements over the tropes. "Smart guard" in particular felt very familiar maybe it was Joss Whedon writing. Injuries and death were on the table. And, yet, they didn't notice that scenes that changed characters outlook were lacking breathing room and in general were rushed? It could have being so much more.
The idea was good and it's always great to see some sci-fi, especially animated one. But along the whole movie I had that feeling that it'd be much better as an animated series instead of just one movie. They could expand characters, stories and adventures much more. Because now it felt so rushed in many cases makes you not believe in what's happening, the reactions of the characters and their decisions. One minute it's one thing, another minute it's already totally different. Same with the script in general. Overall, it's worth watching once, but seems like they wasted so much greater potential of this story.
