Die in London lebende Mrs. Bakshi hat schlaflose Nächte, geht es doch darum, ihre vier Töchter möglichst gewinnbringend unter die Haube zu bringen. Als der reiche Inder Balraj die Älteste zu heiraten gedenkt und dessen amerikanischer Freund Darcy sich in Lalita verliebt, scheint ein Teilerfolg geschafft. Doch da Darcy nur so vor Vorurteilen über Indien strotzt, schickt ihn Lalita in die Wüste. Stattdessen soll sie den trotteligen US-Inder Mr. Kholi ehelichen. Doch Lalita hat ihren eigenen Willen - und das Schicksal mit den Bakshis viel vor.

This is a Bollywood retelling of Pride and Prejudice but it tried too hard to be both Bollywood and Hollywood and failed at both. The songs were in english and the translations lose all the poetry of the original language. Some of them were more Broadway than Bollywood and that kind of ruined it for me. And part of what makes Pride and Prejudice so amazing is the relationship between the two main characters. Their antagonism but more than that, the intelligence, the witty banter. And this retelling was missing all of that. This movie tried so hard to bring two worlds together, but in the end it was a miss on both ends.

I think this movie is great. The soundtrack is great too.
