Jemand beobachtet Dich...

Even though Klaus Kinski delivers an expectedly intriguing performance in “Crawlspace,” the movie didn't really appeal to me. Not much happens, and almost all the characters are rather dull. Compared to most slashers, the whole thing is also rather mild in terms of the level of violence. What exactly director David Schmoeller wanted to achieve remained a mystery to me until the end. “Crawlspace” is ultimately an unremarkable and, above all, boring movie, which is only enhanced by Kinski in a few moments. The stories about what happened behind the scenes definitely sound a million times more interesting than the actual movie.
There are worse movies rated better. Would have been amazing with more tension and real horror. The plot is good enough and the setting is fantastic for Kinski's character to journey into sickness but he never gets that sick or seems that mad in the environment. Even the voyeur and torture elements could have gone further. I like the creepy stillness of Kinski's character but in a movie that is about one character you need something else even if it's one or two short scenes. The female characters don't really interact in a way which produces more tension or horror against Kinski's character either. A missed opportunity. The movie does also have a climax which saves it. I'm glad I watched it and Kinski is good in it.
