Had to switch it off halfway through, was so boring, terrible acting too!
I've not read the source material, so can't comment on how true to that it is Acting was definitely patchy at times, but there is also some sold acting (Spall, Harcourt) It's a slow burn, rather than any action, and does in include some pretty impressive plot holes, but that is probably expected considering the topic. But the underlying story, although familiar had some nice aspects to it And for me, what did appeal was that it was filmed in Christchurch in New Zealand , a city that was devastated by an earthquake a decade ago, and is still struggling to recover (and also a place where I lived as a student). That, and the "homely acting" from the female lead, made the whole movie feel like it was happening around me Overall, not a stellar movie, but entertaining enough
The book on which the film is based is apparently very good, but it falls flat on the screen, despite a disturbingly creepy performance from Timothy Spall.
