Ishana's debut will sit well with Shyamalan fans but will fall short for everyone else. Like most M. Night's films, The Watchers is weird, has giant plotholes, and fully relies on a twist. It's the same formula over, and over, and over, and over, and...
A decent horror thriller up until you remember three quarters in; "oh right, this is a Shyamalan movie so they need to scrap it with a twist at the end" and that's exactly what happened. I was ready to give this a 7/10 before the last 15 minutes but then it turned into a 4/10. The twist was something I predicted in the first half and I never thought they would actually go with something so obvious. The first half of this is so damn similar to the series *From*, felt like plagiarism honestly. What a beautiful movie though, the forest, the city, the wide landscape shots, the yellow lighting... it's all breathtaking and creates thick atmosphere. Good camerawork. Nice score. The acting is all pretty good except for the older lady, her dialogue delivery is sometimes cheesy. The look of the Watchers is really unsettling, great design, the first time we see them I was on the edge of my seat it came right out of a nightmare. A few thrilling sequences and quite suspenceful. Lots of exposition but I enjoyed those scenes because the lore and creatures are interesting. Such a shame for the last 15 minutes. Not a good start for Ishana Night Shyamalan but I see the potencial, either be sure you have a strong twist or just don't do one.
The ending kind of felt forced and undeserving. The first half was pretty cool, but the second half just kind of felt like they were extending the story solely to increase the runtime.
A very successful scenario. I've seen a lot of movies like this, but almost most of them were never this good. That bird had already figured things out. The surprise I felt in the last scene was something I started to understand later, so everything was done very well. The acting is already excellent. I can't even talk about the effects, the subject is understandable and it doesn't get boring at all. It was the best fantasy, horror and mystery movie I've seen recently. Thank you for everyone's efforts.👍
It's not great, but it ain't bad either. Commendable first effort.
