Kim Sae-ron is not only cute, but she has also been killing it in her performances since she was a kid—I love her. A Girl at My Door is an excellent movie; it has solid content with a strong moral message, and its structure is grounded in sound logic. With a great soundtrack and atmosphere, it's absolutely flawless, making it yet another highly recommended movie and one of my personal favorites.
This is such a powerful story. I could feel the tension in my body as Yeong-nam becomes trapped between how things seem and how they are. This little low budget film took the world by storm, first in Asia (winning awards for Best Picture and Actor) then when Cannes introduced it to an international audience. July Jung, who wrote and directed, roots the movie in a sense that you know this community, characters, and politics. It is within this quiet, that abuse, trauma and secrets, lie, just beneath the surface. Bae Doona and Kim Sae-ron are brilliant in their portrayal of quiet fierceness. (Kim Sae-Ron is a young talent to follow.). Incredible script. Incredible performances. These characters will haunt me. The movie has that power. I give his film a 9 (intensely moving) out of 10.
