Doch der einstige Elitekämpfer kommt nicht zur Ruhe. Als die Enkeltochter seiner Haushälterin Maria verschleppt wird, begibt sich Rambo auf eine Rettungsmission nach Mexiko. The story beats are as basic as i don't know what, the ending is laughably predictable and the performances barely passable. Seen strictly as a revenge movie however, it's immensely satisfying. It's Home Alone for grown ups. The fact that it's quite gory doesn't hurt either.
Lets be honest, we all went to see the movie for the action, for the gore which was spectacular by the way! We all knew what it was about... except the piece of shit who brought his kid to the movie and his wife started yelling at him and due to her sitting next to me she was also yelling in my ear and not even my shushes would calm her down... I mean bitch can't you take it outside?! Okay, okay... the movie, obviously isn't a masterpiece, the acting? the dialogue? You'll find better dialogue on 4chan... The story? A mix between Taken and Home Alone... But even with its flaws I still enjoyed it... why? I don't know, '90s nostalgia, I guess... If you're a fan of action flicks, this movie is for you. But keep in mind this is not a _family friendly_ movie...
Not nearly as bad as I read. Is it a masterpiece? Of course not. It's probably not even better that the previous one. But it might be more memorable. Because of the smart action sequences and the impactful non-layered drama, this movie will probably stick with you more that Rambo (2008). I felt sad at times and I felt really excited with Sly's "choreographied" OTT violence. I expected that much. This is a Rambo movie and it was fun. That should suffice. Is this the best way to say goodbye to the character? Probably not. But I got what I came for.
The problem with this movie is that it is just a basic revenge movie that could have been done without the character of Rambo and it would have been all the same. It doesn't have a hidden anti-war message, no real link to the reality of a veteran's PTSD nor the over the top one-man army meme that Rambo is known for.
I haven't read/seen anything about this movie before watching and I was expecting to see Rambo doing what Rambo does the best - many, many, many violent kills. But I wasn't expecting the story to be around the horrible sex trafficking industry, a pretty harsh subject. Sadly, it just doesn't fit well with the character of Rambo, yeah yeah we see him having difficulty to handle the accidental deaths at the start of the movie but beside that, there's no hard link to the back-story of Rambo, the Viêt-Nam vet suffering from PTSD and turned into a one-man army just turn into a basic revenge flick. Moreover, I was happy to see him go back to the old traps and spikes so those assholes get the painful death they deserves for all those innocent life they destroyed just to see Rambo quickly end their life after being impaled. What's the purpose of the traps then? He said himself that he wanted them to suffer, just to mercifully kill them.
Anyway, I just spent the last 15 minutes trying to see the meaning of this movie for the character of Rambo and I'm just losing my time. **TL;DR: The movie's title is clickbait at best. The movie would have been the same without Rambo and there's no links to First Blood beside wood spikes traps.**
This is a fantastic, brutal action movie with explosions, gore and Rambo being Rambo. The cinematography takes vibes from Taken, Death Wish and Sicario, and it works well. The pacing is decent and at only 90 minutes it doesn't drag which can happen in these films. If you like action, a little bit of plot and everyone getting brutally murdered - this is the film for you. Definitely worth a watch on the big screen!
