>"It's the hunger. The hunger for an alternative, and the refusal to accept a life of unhappiness." It's because of these movies that the suburbs seem so haunting. Never know what could be going on in your own neighborhood. This takes a raw look at suburbia and shows that not everything is black and white, but doesn't mean it's right either.
In many of the reviews I read before watching this film I saw that there was a comparison with American Beauty. I can see some similarities between the two films but I feel that there is a huge difference in the the characters. In AB the characters were empty and probably did not seem like anyone that you might know. In this film I could relate to a little bit of something in all of the characters. Some criticized it for having a yuppie backdrop but I feel that unfair. I think what made the film especially unique is the pacing. While the movie is a drama / dark comedy it had a bit of a hypnotic pacing that made it feel as though it was a thriller. I think the narration helped in this sense in that the director did not have to spend scenes telling you what the actors were thinking. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com or facebook IHateBadMovies
I would rate it as 7/10 but with these cast and so GREAT perfomances i give it a 7.7/10..It tried to be so similar to American beauty even the soundtrack is like a copy but it had some differences which made it unique in the end..Worths a watch for sure and i wasn't bored for a second like many watchers told.Sorry for my bad english :)
Lives in the suburbs.. Ok.
Somewhere between _American Beauty_ (1999), and _Happiness_ (1998) is _Little Children_. In other words, this is a heavy drama about people struggling to find joy. The movie is really four stories in one, and while they all intersect, mainly this is following Winslet, and Wilson. Even though this is a solid film overall - in terms of acting, writing, and pacing - the major strength is the emotions it summons. I don't care who you are, you're going to feel something. Maybe you'll hate some of the characters. Maybe you'll feel disgust, followed by sympathy. Great movie, but not a fun watch; this deals with dark, uncomfortable subject matter. Highly recommended for fans of heavy indie drama.
