Als in der friedlichen Kleinstadt Ravens Fair ein Kind ermordet wird, steht die Täterin für die aufgebrachten Bewohner sofort fest: Es muss die kinderlose Bauchrednerin Mary Shaw gewesen sein! Der alten Frau wird die Zunge herausgeschnitten, bevor man sie umbringt und mit ihren unheimlichen Bauchrednerpuppen begräbt. Seit dieser Bluttat wird die Gemeinde von furchtbaren Morden erschüttert - seit Jahrzehnten findet man immer wieder ganze Familien, deren grausam zugerichteten Leichen der Täter die Zungen abgetrennt hat. Als die Ehefrau des jungen Jamie Ashen auf gleiche Weise ermordet wird, macht er sich auf die Jagd nach der untoten Mary Shaw und ihren Killer-Puppen...

Quite a different horror movie, I quite enjoyed it. I was not expecting that plot twist at the end!
this was so boring but mary shaw kinda iconic they should have made like an origin story about her instead
The aughts aren’t exactly known for having been a particularly good era for the horror genre. But as someone who actually liked “Saw,” the combination of director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell didn’t sound half bad at first. “Dead Silence” was their joint follow-up project to “Saw,” so a certain level of anticipation is certainly not out of place. But after just a few moments, my excitement had evaporated, because that awful color grading—which was ubiquitous in horror films in the 2000s—is, of course, also used here. In principle, Wan certainly demonstrates his talent in several moments, but that can’t hide the fact that the film looks truly unpleasant. And I don’t really find dolls that scary to begin with, so I was pretty bored at times. Wan and Whannell then try to pull off a twist ending, just like in “Saw,” but in my opinion, they fail miserably. Ultimately, whether you’ll have a good time with “Dead Silence” probably depends a lot on how scary you find dolls. Regardless of its generally competent production, it definitely didn’t click with me.
