Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays a U.S. Soldier that gets pushed a bit too far by some dirtbags and things start to get shot, get blown up and smacked with 4X4 posts. Luckily, "The Rock" is there to flex his personality and make a bad movie a little less bad. The movie's primary offense? Changing the main character's name from Buford Pusser to Chris Vaughn.
Walking Tall is a perfectly serviceable slice of 2000s action filmmaking—lean, loud, and straightforward. It’s exactly what you’d expect from the era, complete with over-the-top fight scenes, simple motivations, and a clear sense of right and wrong. While some parts haven’t aged particularly well, the film still works as an entertaining dose of nostalgia, especially for fans of early The Rock action vehicles. It’s not groundbreaking, but it doesn’t need to be. Sometimes a simple revenge-driven action flick is all you want, and Walking Tall delivers that with just enough charm and muscle to make it worth revisiting. Rating: 3/5 – 75% – Worth Watching
Just like I remember it, Walking Tall is a pretty straight forward action movie. A “strong” protagonist, comedic sidekick, hot chicks, and a whole lot of mayhem. Not exactly high art, but it follows the formula well enough to be quite entertaining. I like it!!!
Light, weightless, fun action. The Rock is great in the role, and the story is good. It's not as compelling or fleshed out as the originals or the true story. But it's a fun enough action movie to forgive all that and have a good time with the retribution.
Remake of the cult 1973 film starring the Rock. And it was surprisingly watchable. I do like the original but I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece. And I didn't know it had been remade until I happened across this. And it's perfectly watchable and kind of entertaining. That's not to say it's outstanding. It isn't. But I expected it to be awful and it's decent enough. Despite being a prick, The Rock is pretty good onscreen. The casting of Johnny Knoxville brings a certain sense of humour to it and it's an easy watch. Short too. I'm sure fans of the original probably hate it. But for me it's a decent movie.
